There was no snowfall this year, only the pitter patter of rain lashing out at the window, gnarled tree branches twisting in the wind, gusts of air howling, begging to be heard. Jasmine peered out of her window in dismay, it was bad enough that 2020 had reared it’s ugly head, but now the weather had to be s***tty to boot? Not on her watch she exclaimed, an idea forming rapidly as she paced.She would become their very own Santa, a vegan christmas gift in the making, showering them in cruelty free kisses and adoration, even when they couldn’t meet.

They were seperated by stretches of land and sea but that wouldn’t stop Jasmine from giving her loved ones the best vegan Christmas that they could have ever dreamed of. She would Skype with them as they opened their presents, and raise a virtual toast to a happier year ahead. They would laugh joyfully into the night, decked out in their most hideous festive jumpers, sending novelty gifts from afar.

She was determined, in spite of this year’s obstacles to have a very merry vegan christmas, and she knew what would give her loved ones peace of mind, what would turn their frown upside down.For 2020 was a year of surprises, but her being Santa wasn’t one of them. Ever since she was little she loved watching other people’s faces light up in glee, almost hugging herself with excitment at their reaction.

For this might be a Christmas like no other, but Jasmine wasn’t going to let that stop her from procuring vegan delights. She delved into the glitter ball and plucked out vegan gifts that waltzed around the room like there was no tomorrow. Glorious Marshall & Brown rum truffles toyed with the tip of her tongue in a sensous dance, as Tattinger Brut Reserve NV came alive for one night only. Guests drank merrily under the Christmas tree that sparkled with mermaid lights, while cheesy Christmas songs came on the stereo as they sang out of tune.

But they were having fun. Despite being in a pandemic they learned how to adapt, taking zoom calls with loved ones who could not join them, and playing drinking games online. They sent love letters and friendship notes, delivered care packages with a smile to boot. Miss Corona wasn’t about to stop their Christmas cheer, and Jasmine was determined to show 2020 who was boss.

And thus the ultimate vegan christmas gift guide was born, as Jasmine mulled over the vegan treats that would make her way to her loved ones, signed, sealed and delivered with love. She would create vegan wine and cheese night care packages, squealing with joy, The Jenkyn Place Rose 2014, paired with Bath Culture House’s garlic and herb chease. It was a rioutous explosion of taste, a dry elegant sparkling wine strutting in a rose pink dress, taunting the creamy richness of the vegan chease with her seductive good looks. 

She had all bases covered; from vegan gift ideas for couples to vegan food and drink, cruelty free skincare and beauty right through to must have vegan stocking fillers, sleighing veganism never felt so good. And so the ultimate vegan christmas gift guide was born, she had found a gift for everyone. There were gifts for the hard to please and the vegan naysayers. There were novelty gifts and the sentimentalities.

But most of all there was love, wrapped in a shiny red bow…

Vegan Food And Drink

Anyone who knew Jasmine would laugh at how she liked to munch, and being a vegan was no exception. At night she would dream about vegan cakes swathed in oreo delight, while a vegan cheezboard begged to be vanquished. She’d feast on succulent strawberries washed down with personalized champagne from ‘Say it with Champers’, the bubbles fizzing playfully on her tongue, the fire crackling with warmth.

There would be many nights where she’d take time out to date herself, spending me time the  best way she knew how. Bubble baths with a face mask as she nibbled on heavenly caffeine free and vegan chocolate from Super Treats that were oh so moerish. Dance workouts to Cardi B and Doja Cat, washed down with an energizing dose of Remedy Coconut Water Kefir. And Christmas was going to be just as spectacular,

Sweet Treats

Jasmine loved how Christmas gave her an excuse to eat whatever the f**k she wanted, and she lived for it. She loved the vegan mince pies dusted in sugar and the vegan gingerbread cookies that reminded her of the Shrek movies. She adored the rum and coconut snowballs that were delectable and sweet and hankered after vegan Baileys chocolate cream parfaits that would be gone in one bite.

Luckily, she knew one brand that would make all her vegan christmas gift dreams come true in one fellow swoop…

In came The Treehouse Bakery in a cloud of oreos, cream and chocolate, a bakers box with a difference. For this indulgent 100% plant based bakers box was a treasure trove where sweet treats dined and lived, in a cake kingdom where happiness is the dish of the day. It was a bakers box that would help her become a better baker, with wet and dry ingredients that would save her leaving home. Best of all each recipe box was so easy to follow, that she thought she had gone on the Great British Bake Off overnight, and gurl was she livin’.

There were biscoff blondies to satisfy her sugar cravings and gooey chocolate brownies that danced on a bed of Wonka’s delight. A chocolate oreo cake captivated her imagination as she revelled in its wicked ways, while a vegan gingerbread cottage was breathtakingly festive, served with hot chocolate and vegan marshmallows. She’d felt like she had won the golden ticket that night, did she dream that she could bake?

But as night crept into morning and the sun rose once more, she realized that her dream was an actuality and she sighed with bliss. So she crammed slices of oreo cake, fluffy as a cloud into her mouth in unadulterated glee, doing her bit for the animals who thanked her with a smile. She gave herself a pat on the back for doing her bit for the environment too, as each bakers box came in recyclable and compostable packaging. She felt like an eco goddess who had taken on the world and won. She had to share this Xmas cheer with others too.

Her friends were just a zoom call away and they shouted out with glee. Affordable, plant based and indulgent? They couldn’t believe their eyes, mesmerized at the lavish sight that lay before them. Christmas wreaths glazed with love, oreo cake crumbs on greedy lips, washed down with a festive tipple that made their heart soar. They came together as one, dreaming a bakers box dream. It was bliss.

An award winning chocolatier was next to tickle Jasmine’s taste buds, vegan gourmet Jamaican rum truffles made using heavenly chocolate ganache. She bit into a morsel delicately savouring the explosion of chocolate in her mouth, dark chocolate infused with a Jamaican rum from a long-established distiller.

For this was no ordanairy chocolatier but Marshall & Brown, who were renowned for transporting their customers to the tropics, authentic Jamaican ingredients in every mouthful. Every truffle she popped in her mouth, felt like it had been caressed with love, the dark chocolate and rum complementing each other delightfully in balance, it was a foodgasm ingrained in culture.

Before she knew it, the truffles had disappeared just like that, and she knew what she must do. So she placed several orders, and wrapped up her truffles in festive wrapping paper, personalizing each gift with a handmade card and note, expressing her love and admiration for her loved ones, with a kiss and a smile. She felt content, her work here was done. But could she resist another one?

Jasmine had fallen in love with Marshall & Brown and knew that she couldn’t leave the site without another goodie to add to her Vegan Christmas gift guide. It was ‘ The Jerk House Red Pepper Sauce’ that caught her eye, captioned as being ‘the real taste of Jamaica’. She longed for its authentic taste, craved the exotic blend of Jamaican herbs and spices that would retain that Carribean twist.

No sweet treat would be complete without a chocolate gift set Jasmine decried and what could be better than Farhi and their ‘vegan friendly collection’? She ran her hand down the signature nine-way gift box, a selection of  premium Medjool dates, stuffed with delicious, unique, luxurious fillings that begged to be explored. Dipped in silky dark chocolate, she felt her mouth watering at the thought.

She was never a massive dark chocolate fan but lo and behold did these fillings bring the chocolate covered dates alive. There were zesty orange peels, premium belgian chocolate, as well as a wonderful selection of nuts; boasting premium pistachios, crunchy cashews, the finest Californian almonds and Persian walnuts. It was a feast for the senses, she was pratically salivating with every bite.

Jasmine’s sweet tooth had been quenched and she craved a savoury vegan palete cleanser. She searched low and high to find the creamiest, most saucy savoury delights in the land and boy was she pleased as punch when she found them. They sought her out with a hand written note, begging for her to bite into their savoury hearts. There were vegan cheeses that surprised her with their authentic taste and vegan popcorn bites that nestled right at home in her mouth. She was in heaven and she intended for it to stay that way.

Jasmine knew that she was in for a sumptous surprise when she was confronted with the news that Ilchester and Applewood had brought back their Vegan festive cheese selection and boy was she right. She could hardly believe that she was eating vegan cheese, when the cheeses were so creamy, so moerish and were packed full of flavour that made her heart sing.

Featuring the multi-award winning Applewood Vegan, and three new flavours including Mexicana Vegan Spicy Cheese , New Ilchester Melting Mature Cheddar Vegan, and New Ilchester Blue Vegan Cheese Alternative(with blue spirulina vein), she was in vegan cheese heaven. As far as any vegan Christmas gift goes, this cheezboard was pretty high at the top of her wishlist.

Made with coconut base and fortified with vitamin B12 and calcium, the Norseland’s vegan cheese was even produced in an allergen-free plant-based dedicated factory, and she loved them for it. They claimed that it tasted as good as a traditional cheese Christmas board, so she had to try it out for herself. Could it be the one that she really wanted? Her scores were in, it was 10’s, 10’s, 10’s across the board.

Could she convince her non-vegan or non-vegetarian loved ones to try out the vegan cheezboard? They were reluctant at first, claiming-as she had done so in the past- that ‘vegan cheese could never be a substitute’ for ‘real cheese’. But could they dare to dream and be proven wrong? The blue vegan cheese had a mild stilton tang, that wasn’t overpowering, delightfully paired with plum chutney.

The melting mature cheddar took a while to kick in, but its mild taste soon came through when paired with crackers. But no vegan ‘cheezboard’ would be complete without the vegan favourite Mexicana vegan spicy cheese, enriched with powerful spice that would lend a kick to any festive vegan Christmas cheeseboard. Out of the three this was by far our favourite.

Jasmine always associated ‘popcorn’ with movies, and what better time of year to have a movie marathon than at Christmas, snuggling in warm cozy blankets, in fluffy dressing gowns. There would be ‘The Grinch’ and ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’, and no festive season would be complete without Love Actually. It was all shaping up nicely, but there was one thing missing. Popcorn of course!

She was mesmerized at the thought of giving her partner a special champagne bottle, celebrating their second Christmas together.

She couldn’t wait to see his face as he spotted the message that wished the both of them a Merry Christmas, with a cheery festive scene that transported them into a winter wonderland. As someone who loved supporting small businesses she thought this was a truly magificient gift. Jasmine had been searching high and low for her next drink, a vegan sparkling rose wine that would blow her mind, and boy did she find ‘the one’. The Jenkyn Place Rose 2014 stole her heart, pure and simple, a vegan Christmas gift that was deliciously elegant and refreshing. She dared to taste it in all its splendour, showing savoury notes of fresh bread, citrus and brioche on the nose that made her dizzy with lust.

With bright, delicate flavours of rosehip, redcurrant and cranberry on the palate, her Christmas awakening had begun and she was living for it. She wasn’t the only one either, as even her partner adored the sparkling wine, as they toasted to another Christmas together, entwined as one. They sat by the fireplace, feeling the warmth of the flames light up their faces with love. It was a magical moment to be remembered.

The vegan wine, though dominated by Pinot Noir, had a chalky minerality, with a significant proportion of Chardonnay making its presence felt in the long, precise and linear finish. Jasmine knew that it was a dry, elegant sparkling rose that would continue to evolve gracefully for many years to come. Jasmine knew that Christmas was a time of celebration, and pondered long and hard over the drinks she would serve her guests, both virtually and in person. Which is where Tattinger Brut Reserve NV came to play oh so merrily.

The palate was lean, but had considerable depth and elegance with a long fresh finish. While its elegance allowed it to be a champagne for any occasion, as an apertif it was exceptional, sating all J’s guests promptly.

Jasmine remembered when people would give her funny looks for ordering beers at a bar, when her boyfriend would sup on cider, but she didn’t care. She loved the freshness of beer and how it would coat her mouth in white foam, chortling at how she’d look like Santa Claus. She loved how beer would make her belly glow with warmth and gave her a fuzzy feeling inside. Most of all she loved how it tasted like honeydew.

Meanwhile the Cherry Chouffe reveals notes of strawberry, almond, spices and sweet Port, while the Houblon Chouffe was a strong bitter IPA, with subtle grapefruit notes. But lest we forget Chouffe Soleil, oh so radiant.

Delicate, fruity, refreshing… the multi award winning CHOUFFE Soleil promises you radiant moments, coated in the sweet aroma of elderflower and chamomile, for a rather different beer experience. If that wasn’t quirky enough, imagine how tickled Jasmine was by  Brasserie d’Achouffe being named after the Chouffe gnomes that were rumoured to live in the Ardennes mountains, oh what a hoot!

Jasmine wanted to create a bold and exciting vegan Christmas gift guide that offered something for everyone, and one thing that she hadn’t come across were vegan gifts for couples. She wanted vegan gift ideas that would bring couples closer together, whether that be through an evening of competitive fun, intimate bonding or improving their communication, and lo and behold she bloody well did it.

Box 42 

When Jasmine stumbled across Box 42 on Twitter, she almost squealed with excitement because it was exactly what she had been looking for. A date night box with a difference, Box 42 would allow couples in lockdown to get the full ‘date night experience’ at home, without the fear of missing out. The more she read, the more excited she got, as she saw themed vegan boxes that would let her have fun too!

From a ‘Funfair Champions Date Night Box’ to a Tuscan Pottery Date Night, she loved how unique each box was, and how she could even purchase a ‘one off box’ to see what the hype was all about. Boy was she excited, but which vegan box would she choose? Would it be the Funfair themed box for a wild evening of competitive fun or would the pottery box stoke the fires of their romantic fairytale the most?

In the end it was the Funfair Champions Date Night Box that stole her heart, reminding Jasmine of her first date with her boyfriend, where he took her to a games themed bar called Loading in Dalston.
