The Diana Mixtape Musical At Outernet Review

August 1, 2025

Is ‘Toxic’ your national anthem? Do you treat the ‘Revenge Dress’ like Scripture? Is the Royal Family your go-to source for piping hot tea? If “Princess Diana in drag” sounds like a plot twist you’d binge—run, don’t walk. For The Diana Mixtape Musical is loud, unapologetic, and camper than a tent at Glastonbury! A fever dream of pop, monarchy, and drag excellence, this love letter to Diana is impossibly feel-good. Created and directed by Christopher D. Clegg—whose producer credits include Death Drop, Cool Rider and Gals Aloud—this production promises a dance‑floor ready tribute to the People’s Princess, expressed through a glittering 90-minute show. From the 28th July-10th August, Here Outernet hosts 5 (!) Princess Diana’s, a kooky Queen Elizabeth, rambunctious Camilla, and a randy Charles. Serving RuPaul’s Drag Race meets The Crown on an energy drink bender, you’ll wet yourself with laughter.

Concept & Format: Diana Reimagined

Forget what you know about Princess Diana. If she was alive today, she’d be throwing tips at Drag Brunch, telling Charles to f***k off, and sitting FROW at London Fashion Week.  Oh, and she’d be popping her fan at Rose, Priyanka, Kitty Scott Claus, Courtney Act & Divina De Campo, as they put respect on her name. This isn’t your standard biographical musical. You know the one. Where someone vaguely famous sings a few showtunes, and dies in act two? Instead, the five queens represent different versions of Diana. Imagine Pokemon and Diana had a baby. You have Innocent Diana, Trapped Diana, Fabulous Diana, Enlightened Diana, and Full-On Pop Icon Diana. The queens belt out reworked pop anthems from Doja Cat, to Billie Eilish, and Britney, having a coronation of their own. Ever wondered how Diana would lipsync Padam Padam? Wonder no more. The Diana Mixtape musical is a mood board in stiletto kicks, rhinestones and queer theatricality.

My personal stand out? Rose as Princess Diana exuded confidence, star-power and jaw dropping vocals that were so melodic, you could hear a pin drop. Her being fitted into the iconic Princess Diana wedding dress was a highlight. Singing Angel of My Dreams by Jade, with a powerful vibrato that sent shivers down my body. But all the queens were fantastic in their solo moments. Priyanka rapping ‘Boss Bitch’ on the treadmill, while holding the Aid Ribbon, and Centrepoint banner was pretty special. Kitty Scott Claus wrapped in a pink Disney Princess duvet singing ‘Lucky’ by Britney Spears made me laugh. Courtney Act dancing ballroom with Charles singing ‘Edge of Glory’ was iconic. Divina De Campo singing ‘Cut To The Feeling’ in a leopard print kaftan with unbridled joy. Their group moments were special too. ‘Think Before He Cheats’ dressed in leopard print leotards and white t-shirts. Made me want to key someone’s car, LOL. Belting out ‘Pink Pony Club’ in 5 magnificient revenge dresses, was a diva moment too.

The queens were fantastic but lets not forget the supporting cast. Keala Settle with powerhouse vocals in the divine role of Queen Elizabeth II. Delivering comedy, gravitas, and clap-backs, I felt like I was getting read by the doll. It’s a shame she wasn’t used in more scenes as her comedic timing was like no other, but what a talent. Singing ‘Commander’ while holding a handbag with a Labubu made my day. It’s like Judi Dench was booked to host drag bingo. Lucinda Lawrence and Noel Sullivan were fantastic too. AKA Charles & Camilla performing a strip tease to Physical which had the crowd gasping for more. Who knew the current king and queen had a bondage kink? Yeah me neither.

My only critiques? There were technical issues with the sound that meant performers were struggling to be heard over louder music. It meant that at times the performers voices were cutting out, or there was feedback from the mike. The other issue was seating and pricing. People had to pay £50 for standing tickets, with a small seating area, that needed to be extended. I understand that they wanted a ‘pop girly’ concert moment, but those are my only gripes. Otherwise, The Diana Mixtape Musical was a high-octane show that had you dancing on your feet, and singing ‘more, more, more’.

Encore anyone?

Highlights

  • Gorgeous costume design by River Smith, especially the five revenge dresses
  • Dazzling choreography by Taz Hoesli especially when Courtney Act is tap dancing, and doing ballroom
  • Rose ‘Angel of My Dreams’ wedding dress montage. Damn those vocals.
  • Group Pink Pony Club number in the 5 revenge dresses

Lowpoints

  • Technical sound issue which meant we sometimes struggled to hear performers. I’m confident this will be ironed out though.
  • Seating vs Standing: The seating area should have had larger capacity, so that more people could be seated. While I was lucky enough to be seated, we were originally standing.
