A Cozy Night In For Valentine’s Day With Amara

February 13, 2018

I might be a ‘single wee lass’ searching my room for imaginary pugs and cats, but for some February 14th marks a day full of celebration and ‘lurve’. Whether that be through stuffing your faces with delicious and decadent food at the worlds most pompous restaurant or showering your loved one with a bouquet of flowers that they ‘plucked’ from your back garden, when it comes to romance, couples don’t seem to hold back. While I would rather not have to listen to the squeal of ‘over eager couples’ having their annual ‘sexy time’ it can be sweet how mass consumerism can result in ‘the honeymoon period’ for couples once more. Besides the cutest thing about Valentine’s Day, is watching the couples who have stood the test of time, walking hand in hand and who will -as cheesy as it sounds- die in each other’s arms. Now that is true love, but for those of us who can’t quite figure out the dating game and have landed in a f**kboy’s trap once or twice, knowing what to do on a day that ‘celebrates love’ can be quite tricky. But let me tell you something, no one said that Valentine’s day was exclusively for ‘couples’ and in fact singletons can enjoy treating themselves to a ‘cozy night in’ just as much as the next person. In fact regardless of whether you are single, having fun or married with 15 children, you don’t need to go out to have fun on Valentines Day, do you?

Which is where Cupid’s apprentices ‘Amara’ comes in, who has scoured the internet wide and low to bring you a selection of intimate home accessories that can transform your home into a safe haven, this Valentine’s Day. From a mini candle set that will soothe you and transform you into a melting puddle of goo, to ‘loving plates’ that you can throw at the wall, if a s**tstorm erupts, when it comes to Valentine’s Day, Amara know a thing or two about keeping the romance alive. And if all else fails and your husband turns out to be a ‘cheating dog’ at least you can enjoy a cozy night in all to yourself, as you imagine fashioning a dart board with his face on it, relishing hitting the target every time.

<img src="ana.jpg" alt="ana birdcage wallpaper cozy night in">

Amara’s ‘Birdcage’ Wallpaper. Perfect For Pretending You Have Gone Back In Time.

A Plate So Sweet You Can Lick Cheesecake Off It

<img src="ana.jpg" alt="ana peace and love dessert plates">

When It Comes To Dessert, Nothing Says Romance More Than Not Sharing Your Cake. They Can Buy Their Own Cake If They Are That Desperate.

When it comes to a cozy night in, nothing screams ‘cutesy romance’ than a dinner date with your animal friends. And by animal friends I mean the imaginary cats and dogs that sit on your lap, while you enjoy a meal for three people all to yourself. Plus the best part about having imaginary pets is A. they can’t judge you because they don’t exist and B. they can’t steal your food because they don’t exist. Which is where Amara’s dessert plate comes in, chock full of romantic phrases like ‘peace and love’ that is just as applicable to the ‘singleton’ as it is to couples who have their ‘Lady and The Tramp’ moment. Whether your dessert of choice is a creamy cheesecake that is drizzled with raspberry sauce or you would rather plunge your face into some rich chocolate cake, that you will rather casually motorboat, the possibilities are endless when it comes to a ‘cheeky dinner date’. As I will be spending my Valentine’s Day with friends, I could invite them over for some delightful dessert. However being the greedy pig that I am, I will be having my third course with my imaginary pets, having a cozy night in and crying with laughter as I watch Celebs Go Dating.

Wander Into The Enchanted Gardens…

<img src="ana.jpg" alt="ana blue floral wallpaper cozy night in">

The Enchanted Gardens Are Full Of Hidden Delights.

When it comes to pretending like my ‘real life’ doesn’t exist I can quite confidently say that I am the resident expert. From floating into mermaid lands to taking my imaginary pets for a walk, conjuring fantasy worlds seems to be a specialism of mine. But what on earth does ‘fantasy’ have to do with Valentines Day and having a cozy night in I hear you ask? Well as Amara has the coveted title of being the ultimate ‘Cupid in Training’, they have curated a wonderful wallpaper collection that will transform your room from looking like a s**thole into a enchanted garden, worthy of a cozy night in. If you have a partner or a lover, you can put your hands over their eyes as you guide them into your paradise and watch them gasp as their eyes rove over the bright colours and textured prints. If you are single you can be ‘dramatic’ and pretend that your Prince is waiting for you in the garden or if you are ‘so over’ relationships, you can use your enchanted garden to become your happy place, where f**kboys cease to exist. Now how’s that for a cozy night in?

Its A Purrrfect Night In When A Cat’s In Rodeo

Nothing conjures up an image of a ‘cozy night in’ more than a vision of kitties purring, as they curl up by the fireplace. But for those of us who are renting and are not allowed to keep pets- thus the imaginary ones- a beautiful feline portrait is the next best thing. Luckily our baes Amara have curated a beautiful colourful print of a kitty, who for some inexplicable reason is dressed up as a cat in rodeo and faintly reminds me of ‘Puss In Boots’. So why not grab your own ‘Puss in Boots’ to sprinkle some purrfect magic into your Valentines Night In? Plus when it comes to curating your own ‘Valentines cozy night in’, there really are no limitations on how you furnish your room and house. So whether you fancy buying a print of a cat in rodeo or hate pets and would rather have a picture of a prickly cactus that is ‘reflective of your lackluster love life’, portraits truly do tell a lot about who we are as a person. Can we also just take a moment to appreciate how beautifully the cat in rodeo matches the ‘enchanted garden’ wallpaper above? It’s like the gift that just keeps on giving!

Blossom Into A Butterfly As You Turn Back Time

<img src="ana.jpg" alt="ana butterfly wall clock cozy night in">

Transform From A Caterpillar Into A Butterfly As You Suspend Time

Pause time as you blossom into a butterfly, suspended in flight like a dancer in slow motion. Because when it comes to truly ‘celebrating Valentines Day’ sometimes all we need to do is lose ourselves in the moment and give ourselves up to the pleasurable ecstasy that the night will bring. While ‘extra curricular activities’ are often the recipe for a deliciously decadent cozy night in, sometimes just being there with your partner in each others arms and savoring your love is all you need to make all your problems magically disappear. But for those of us who are without a lover, we too can take the opportunity to let time guide us onto a path of self love, where we will take that moment to be kinder to ourselves and others. It sounds cheesy but the ‘butterfly clock’ can be an emblem for new beginnings so regardless of whether you are single or not, let time be the decider of your very own destiny.

Indulge In Some ‘Special Extra Curricular Activities’ With Cushions That You Can Bounce On

<img src="ana.jpg" alt="ana cruelty free cushions cozy night in">

Get Ready To Bounce The Night Away With Cruelty Free Cushions

So you made it to the big day and you are raring to go. The new boy toy is on his way over and you have spent the whole day shaving your legs and waxing your eyebrows, now the only thing to do is make your bedroom look pretty. And what better way to transform your bedroom into a place where good dreams come true than with a selection of beautifully patterned pillows that are guaranteed to be on the floor at the end of the night? From a black cruelty free cushion inspired by the ‘Birds Of Paradise’ to oriental floral print cushions, no matter your colour or print, there is nothing like a beautiful bedroom to get the ‘rumpty pumpty’ going, she says with a subtle cheeky wink.

Buy Yourself Flowers Because Why The Hell Not?

<img src="ana.jpg" alt="ana oil vase cozy night in">

Buy Yourself Your Favourite Blooms And Indulge In Self-Love

Treat yourself to an oil vase that is begging to be filled with fresh flowers, as it looks at you imploringly from the other room. Even if no one is buying you flowers this year, why not become your ‘very own’ Valentine, by buying yourself your favourite flowers and a vase to match your gorgeous blooms. Whether you are into roses or much prefer the prickly cactus, a vase is the perfect finishing touch to a cozy night in. You could buy fresh blooms that will wilt and die within a few days or alternatively you could just buy artificial flowers that will stand the test of time and signify your undying love… for yourself. Go on, treat yourself.

Other Items You Might Like

As I don’t use any animal products I have not included throws or blankets  as many of them contain wool or silk which I do not use, but for those of you who do, there is a wonderful selection of bright home accessories that are guaranteed to take your cozy night in to the next level. From ‘your love is my drug’ cushions to garnet red throws, your cozy night in is about to be blessed by the love gods themselves.

    I couldn’t help but smile at your comments about all of the imaginary cats and dogs that sit on your lap while you enjoy a special Valentine’s Day meal. True story, our pug Wally always used to sit in a chair at the table with us while we were having dinner. I kid you not. He had his own chair with a pillow and never tried to jump on the table. Sometimes, if we talked into the wee hours of the morning, and also in his senior years, he’d lay down and take a nap on his cushion. Other times he’d just close his eyes like my Granny did. (How people can nap sitting up is a skill I’ve yet to master). Even when he spent an afternoon at daycare, they had a special chair he’d sit in at the front desk. Meet and greet always ready for service. Oh, Ana, how I miss him so. I hope one day you do get a pug, you’ll never be in want of a Valentine ever again. x

    I am married and have 3 kids but, I don’t actually fancy celebrating Valentine’s Day. I think it’s over-rated. I believe that couples truly in love can demonstrate their feelings toward each other even if it’s not Valentine’s Day.

I’m also married – and we don’t celebrate Valentine’s day. It was actually part of our mutual attaction that neither of us are dramatic or overly-sentimental about this holiday.

But mostly if I am buried I just hope to not be alone on my night in and am with someone I want to be with. Just hoping that they don’t turn out to be the female equivalent of a f***boy.
