Introducing The New Fashion App: Mirror Mirror

May 17, 2017

As influencers we have seen an increase of apps that promise to monetize our content, hook us up with brands and even teach us how to ‘blog’. There seems to be an app for everything and 2017 has proved to be no exception. From Reward Style ( Like To Know It approved influencers) to Tribe, it is clear that there is no shortage of apps on the market to take your ‘blog to the next level’. But what if you want something a little more ‘light hearted’, with no pressure to have 100 K followers, where the only thing that matters is that you have fun? Introducing Mirror Mirror; Available on Google Play and Apple Store, this ‘social comparison app’ allows you to upload two looks side by side, thus creating a ‘mirror effect’. App users can vote on their ‘favourite look’ and help you choose on an outfit that best reflects your personal style. Whether you are trying to decide on the perfect date night ‘outfit’, beachwear look or a gown to take to a formal dance, Mirror Mirror’s fun social premise helps you connect with other users alongside refining your own personal style.

<img src="ana.jpg" alt="ana pinstripe off the shoulder top">

I like to think of ‘Mirror Mirror’ as a less pressurizing version of Instagram. As much as I adore Instagram it can make me anxious waiting for likes to pour in and wondering when I will eventually hit the 10 K threshold (only 4,400 to go LOL). Unlike Instagram, MirrorMirror is not about how many likes you ‘get’ but how users can help you choose the perfect outfit by voting. The premise is simple, once creating an account, the app comes up with a list of 10 suggested accounts to follow (but you can skip this part) , which takes you straight to the app homepage. Once you have familiarized yourself with how to use MirrorMirror, you can either upload two photos from your gallery or send ย direct photos from your camera. You have the option to write a description and have the ability to use hashtags, with the most popular being #fashionblogger #style #fashion #style which like other social sharing platforms allows you to track the popularity of hashtags and help you find other users in your hashtag category.

It is important that you use hashtags because it increases the visibility of your photo, enabling other users to vote on your content. After you have uploaded your content feel free to vote on other users content, who in turn will most likely return the favour. After all, good app users know that the most important premise of a social interaction platform is not the likes you receive but the engagement ratio. Like I said though, there is no need to treat MirrorMirror like another ‘Instagram’ so don’t worry if you receive low interaction at first, as this is perfectly normal. Remember to tag users or brands in your photos as well as sharing on social media platforms to make full use of the platform.

<img src="ana.jpg" alt="ana stripe off the shoulder top ">

Now here is a dilemma that I have for you, those of you who have followed me on my blogging journey so far might know that I have often been unlucky in love and have struggled to get past the second date club after splitting with my ex. This meant that I rarely had to deal with the dilemma of ‘dressing for a second date’ and even in past relationships, proper dates were never really part of the plan, that was until recently. It is still early days but I actually met someone who seems to like me back in return and we have our next date coming up this week, where he will be cooking me dinner. Now being the ‘always over-dressed for every occasion person’ that I am I want to make sure that I don’t turn up in some fancy ballgown like I would if we were going out to a restaurant. Then again, I don’t want to turn up in tracksuit bottoms either so what on earth do I wear? Dates always get me in the mood for shopping which brings me to my very long winded question- what kind of outfits/ trends should I buy (and from where) to wear to my next date at someones house? Granted I can use Mirror Mirror to help me decide which ‘date look’ is best but I actually want to find some clothes to buy first. There is nothing better than a shiny new purchase – even if your bank account is groaning- and I want your help to decide! Once you have helped me decide, I will upload the chosen looks on MirrorMirror and see what users think would be the best ‘next date night’ look, before sharing the results with you next week. Is it weird that I am practically skipping, I haven’t felt this excited since Cadbury Peanut Butter Oreo chocolate bars were a thing!

    Ooo Mirror Mirror sounds intriguing but we’re not so sure we’d like people voting on looks and putting ourselves out there to pass judgement. We probably would use it like we use Instagram – for inspiration x

    Yay to a second date .. I’m so excited for you and hope it goes really well! You can tell an awful lot about a man depending upon what he cooks for you. Oh Ana, I feel so boring when it comes to my outfits. Jeans, tees, Converse tennis shoes with maybe a dress or two thrown in for good measure. Although I do think it would be fun to weigh in on everybody else! What a fun and cool app

    I am not really a fashion blogger so I kind of wish you had put two different looks of outfits here for me to look. I have so many apps on my phone I am afraid that someone is going to sign me up for apps anonymous. We shall see. Either way, I am sure you will look stunning. You always do. Just don’t do pants, and just don’t wear a ball gown. It’s cooking in so something nice but not like going out nice. I’d kind of have to see what you were choosing between to know.
