Faded Spring’s Festive Lookbook 2017

December 19, 2016

It’s the most festive time of the year, where birds are chirping and the frost settles. The skies cloud over and the weather is decidedly chilly. Nothing can deter the swarms of festive goers from embracing the festive season; warmed by vats of mulled wine they revel in the deliciousness of Christmas. Gingerbread men and hot chocolates dance hand in hand, the festive goers close their eyes in ecstasy. But lo and behold the seasons of ‘fashion past’, where woolen tartan skirts and mittens are top of the list. Layering is inevitable, looking like rugby players we laugh. For it may be cold outside but we are all as snug as a bug in a rug. That might be but wait… hark hear the angels sing. A sweet melody recounting the trends of Christmases past, what will you wear this Christmas? On Boxing Day we wear velvet, metallics on New Year, red every day. Christmas is a joyous festive occasion, full of laughter and cheer so raise a glass to this seasons festive lookbook as it enters Santa’s Grotto.

Faded Spring’s Festive Lookbook

Nothing says festive more than a delicious assortment of Christmas outfits to give Santa a run for its money. Forget the novelty jumpers and fluffy slippers, as much as it breaks my heart to say it this season Christmas just got decidedly glam. From metallic cami dresses in shimmering shades of bronze and silver to the ever popular velvet, Faded Spring has a festive look to suit all occasions

Christmas Ball

Fairy Godmother has cast her spell and declared that you shall go to the ball. Oh but Cinders what will you wear? Nothing says ‘Disney Princess’ more than a frothy baby blue lace tulle dress. Paired with a neutral statement necklace, metallic jewellery and glamorous black faux fur shrug, this dress would be fit for any wannabe Disney Princess. Forget about Princes though, this Princess doesn’t need no Prince to make her life complete. Instead you can find Cinders dancing the night away with all her ‘gal’ pals.

A modern interpretation of Cinderella’s blue Princess gown, the thigh skimming dress shows the world that the Princess has legs and is not afraid to show them off. After all why hide them when your legs look this good [ inserts a cheeky wink here]. Liberated and free from patriarchal control the point of this Christmas ball is not to find a Prince but to find ‘herself’. Looks like Cinders finally found the path to true happiness.

Alternative Christmas Ball Look

Not all of us are super comfortable in a voluminous ball gown and that’s ok. Whether you want to rock a two piece suit or waltz into the ballroom in a slinky jumpsuit, wear what makes you … well you. This futuristic bandage jumpsuit ticks all the alternative boxes and in a bold shade of tomato red, is a festive colour to be rocked this season. Paired with a 70’s floppy hat and 60’s patent boots, the era mismatch lends a decidedly vintage ‘aura’ to the Christmas Ball Look. In short if trousers are more your thang then this jumpsuit will be right up your street.

Christmas Work Drinks

Lets go drinking with our work buddies! But the most important question is not what drinks y’all be sipping on- mojito in case your wondering but what on earth your going to wear?! As someone who is almost always overdressed at any occasion, my advice is go hard or go home. For a truly festive Christmas work drinks look pair luxurious materials like ribbed metallic, lace and faux fur with suede to pull the look together. This season I go nowhere without my trusty faux fur bolero but to keep the look colourful and ‘Christmas’ appropriate the inclusion of a silver iridescent clutch adds a delicious sparkle to the ootd. Decidedly feminine the pink and white lace mid length skirt helps feminize the 70’s aesthetic while the hat stops the look from becoming too formal. After all you are going drinking!

Alternative Christmas Work Drinks Look

Feeling a little more casual but still want to be quite dressed up [ translation cozy] ? Nothing says comfy casual more than a trusty denim dungarees jumpsuit and combined with a colourful polo is the ultimate ‘warm’ Christmas Drinks look. Add to the mix a faux fur coat and patent perspex boots and your onto a winner. Keep the denim jumpsuit as a focal point with accent colours like pastels to brighten up the look and to keep it from looking ‘too casual’

Christmas Day

Christmas day is all about comfort and feeling cozy. Wrap up in your snuggest blankie and drink countless cups of hot choccy because the weather is too darn cold to go outside. You could wear jim jams or a onesie but unfortunately I have not taken photos in a onesie outside so you will have to take my alternative suggestions instead. Personal choice? A simple wrapover jumpsuit, leather jacket, Chelsea Boots and polo neck should do the trick. After all it is comfortable, stylish and ticks all the boxes. When you dress up everyday during the Christmas season, Christmas is the day to really let your hair down.

Alternative Christmas Day Look

Screw my earlier advice. You’re a party gal at heart and are aghast at the fact I would tell people ‘to dress down’. Okay, okay you win what do you want to wear? In spirit of true Christmas fashion a little bit of metallic should do just the trick and when you combine that dress with cute lil’ seahorses whats not to love. Unleash your inner mermaid and bring sea life to Christmas Day.

Boxing Day

Its the day after Christmas and your head’s feeling a little sore but your still determined to hit those Boxing Day Sales. It’s the age old dilemna; you want to be comfortable but still look ‘fashion forward’. Luckily we have Faded Spring on board to tell us how to shop this season. Floral prints are still a huge trend even with the inclusion of festive faves like velvet; try two different ‘floral’ prints to create a contrasting look. Adding pink patent boots and pink mirrored sunnies will up the cool factor, while the skinny fit black trousers will make you the coolest chick around.

Alternative Boxing Day Look

Maybe your the arty type and want to live your life in colour? Whatever your perogative art has no limitations and neither does fashion. Mix and match prints but keep the bottom half simple. The splash of red keeps it festive but the versatility of the look makes it appropriate for shopping the Boxing Day sales.

Wow great selection of looks. I like the ones under Christmas Work Drinks and New Years the best simply because I looooove the boots you have on in them. I’m obsessed with boots. These different ensembles might make it a little easier now for me to figure out what to wear over the holidays. Inspired.
