There is nothing more luxurious than sinking into a bubble bath fragrant with promise, popping foam bubbles and slathering lotions and potions across your exhausted body. There is lilting music in the background, while candles flicker in the corner, an orange light framing your face in an ethereal glow. The curtains are closed, and you flick soap suds off your chest, playing at being a kid once more in your perfect bathroom. The bath toys from a childhood past are tucked away in the corner, while the replacement windows you had fitted a few weeks back sparkles with promise, as you set about creating the perfect bathroom, a mermaid’s paradise in a colourless world. There is a teal rug fluffed up on the floor awaiting clean tootsies, while matching towels slink off stainless steel hooks, a secret mirror enclosed. Your unicorn slippers light up when you slip into them and the lure of a face mask ensnares you in its captivating wake, before you slink into a pamper induced slumber.
While this might seem like the ramblings of a ‘dreamer’, creating your perfect bathroom can not only give you a private domain to have a ‘little me time, as you linger in a languorous bubble of self-love, but it can also help you de-stress, treat yourself and meditate in a quiet corner all to yourself. Of course if we are feeling a lil’ naughty there are plenty of ‘extra-curricular’ activities that you can do, but creating the perfect bathroom all comes down to what you value in a room. For me a bathroom should radiate personality, comfort and entice me in with an open ended invitation but for others bathroom’s must encompass other traits. However you choose to design your perfect bathroom, here are 3 key tips to turn your bathroom into a paradise that you will be writing home about.
Create Accent Colours To Turn Your Bathroom Into A Sophisticated Hangout
While some interior enthusiasts love a maximalist approach to design, mixing prints and colours, a more subtle minimalist aesthetic design might be a little to achieve, especially if you are on a budget. Which is where ‘accent colours’ come in; from sage greens to cherry reds, accent colours are great for the minimalists that are trying to branch out of their comfort zone and want to add a splash of colour to simple bathrooms. That could be through a feature wall or colourful walls, so however you choose to incorporate colour just make sure that the colour is representative of you. Colours like blues, greens and lilacs are great for bathrooms because they evoke feelings of ‘serenity’ , tranquility and positivity, while primary colours like sunshine yellow are ‘happy colours’ that can make feel better, as it is a colour that we associate with happiness.
Colour matching is also bang on trend for 2019, so if you use a white wall as a ‘neutral colour focus’ you can choose vibrant acccent colours that will accentuate the clean lines of the bathroom, as well as creating a more inviting space for both you and any guests that you choose to entertain.
2. Use A ‘Bathroom Planner’ To Help You Create Your Perfect Bathroom
You know how you have planners like ‘Preview’ which enable you to curate the most magical Instagram feeds? Well good news, when it comes to bathrooms, you too can use a series of planners to help you turn your bathroom from drab to fab before you know it. Not only does it allow you to consult with specialists who can tell you as to whether your bathroom plan suits the layout of the current bathroom you have, but you can also curate a floor plan, insert doors and connections and send off your bathroom to a specialist who can help you make your bathroom dreams a reality. Some planners are even as innovative to have VR experiences where you can navigate your way around your ‘bathroom’ and see how it would look like in your home in reality. Now hows that for a perfect bedroom plan?
And don’t worry if you have a small bathroom like mine, even the smallest of rooms can be turned into an oasis that is worth shouting out about. The question is what will your bathroom plan look like?
3. Create A Pinterest/Instagram Board For Inspiration To Curate Your Perfect Bathroom
I can’t tell you how helpful it is to create ‘collections’ on Instagram , which in my case revolves around shoots I would like to create, locations I would like to photograph, as well as seasonal collections like Christmas and Halloween, which inspire me with my shoots going forward. While Instagram is something I use more often to create ‘inspiration collages’ so to speak, Pinterest is a great way of creating boards that can help you piece together your perfect bathroom. Whether you choose to elevate a small bathroom, or turn your bathroom into a mini spa, the world of social media is a useful tool to utilize to have a bathroom that speaks to you. For example my ideal bathroom would be calm and serene, inspired by mermaids and unicorns, which as you might know is very much on brand with my personal aesthetic. The great thing about Pinterest too is how you can categorize content into categories just by using select keywords. For example typing in ‘mermaid bathrooms’ and the colour blue will come up with lust worthy bathroom inspiration that any part time mermaid will be vying for.
