Dreaming Of Another Tomorrow
Another Tomorrow 'Dreaming of another tomorrow I stumble into a new world where hope exists, No more children caught in the trap of injustice, no more bereft adults with empty stomachs, I sit and ponder at the lake of social change where fish metamorphose into greedy politicians, They sit with their hands rubbing in glee, pulling puppets left right and centre and bending them to their will, Is there freedom? No they cry? Social absolution? Definitely not? Equality between men and women? Hell no. But the winds are changing and their plots are discovered, the people revolt-freedom for all they chant with their heads held high- against the greedy fish-men, Plucked and ... read more
Should We Boycott Primark?
Primark, a haven of mass-produced 'fast fashion' at rock bottom prices is no stranger to scandal. In 2013 it was revealed that it had been involved in slave labour and the exploitation of LEDC's in order to keep their prices low. Known as the Rana Plaza tragedy, millions of men, women and even children had been found under rubble and dust, locked in an eternal embrace as their last living moments were spent working tirelessly for budget fashion brands to maintain a living wage. The response was predictable with consumers boycotting Primark because of its overt exploitation of ethnic minorities who were relying on the brand to survive. But it is not just Primark who still uses slave labour to ... read more
The Influence Of Fashion Bloggers On Consumers
In an age defined by technology the power of fashion bloggers in the millennial era has had a lasting influence on consumers, facilitated by the rapid growth of social media and new technologies. In 2015 alone it is reported that 41 % of consumer trends were influenced by their favourite fashion bloggers while a further 23 % of consumers declared that they made direct purchases through their 'shoppable' feed rather than go to the site to buy. Creating an inter-relationship between 'trend setting' and directly 'persuading' consumers to buy their clothes the influence of fashion bloggers on consumers is increasingly prevalent in modern culture. Self-described as the new 'opium of the masses' ... read more
Why I Became A Social Justice Advocate
I have made no bones about the fact that I have been through testing hardships that have affected me both mentally and physically and that is partly why I represent minority voices who have been supressed by their national state system or even their peers. I want to be the voice of our next generation that inspires people to speak up and share their life experiences without fear of judgement because in my world freedom of speech is neccessary. There are economies who are stratified through rigid dictatorship whereby human rights are violated and the power of the government overshadowed the civilians cries for help. I want to change that. For those who don't know me or are new readers I was ... read more
The History Of Androgyny
'Gender labels are like snakes writhing in the grass, Sly spies burning us with their heavy lidded eyes, Stereotypes create bloody destruction, both sexes lost in wars, Outsiders sit in shaded corners but never truly forgotten, In the heat of the blazing sun of truth they come alive, Shedded skin in a pile of memories, unexpected pleasures, what was once man is now woman and woman is now man' Androgynous fashion has become a classic staple of both sexes wardrobes with the overt androgyny of Ellen Degeneres, Jaden Smith and Tilda Swinton revolutionalizing the way we view gender-bending in the modern age. But before androgyny was normalized in mainstream culture it was seen as a social ... read more
Friday Lookbook: Beautiful You
Welcome to my second week of 'Friday Lookbook' and after the popularity of the previous installment which you can read here I have been looking to my readers to provide me with the theme for this weeks looks. This week is centered around a powerful exploration of emotion and what it means to be human in a world centered around destruction. The lack of compassion prevalent in today's society makes it even more imperative that we use fashion to instill a sense of community back into our world and re-create the happiness that was engineered to be with us at birth. Over time our identities are lost and we are just another soul trapped in the bleakness of post-modern automation but through ... read more
David Bowie: Embracing Androgyny
'How many times does an angel fall? How many people lie instead of talking tall? He trod on sacred ground, he cried loud into the crowd (I’m a blackstar, I’m a blackstar, I’m not a gangstar/Something happened on the day he died,Spirit rose a metre then stepped aside Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried I'm a blackstar' A fashion icon, music legend and passionate philanthropist of promoting 'equal love' between all sexes, David Bowie's death on the 10th January left fans heartbroken and mourning the legacy that David Bowie left behind. David was the original Lady Gaga and Madonna, challenging social conventions through androgynous, gender fluid clothing that spawned ... read more
Six Way To Wear Sequins
Originating in Ancient Kot Diji culture, sequins were made from shiny metals as decoration on clothing or paraphernalia in the Indus Valley as early as 2500BC. Deriving from the French interpretation of the Italian word zecchino (gold coin) in the late medieval Venice, metal-based coins later evolved into its modern form which largely uses coloured or tinted plastic.Today sequins are used largely for decorative purposes although in some cultures sequins are still used as a status symbol of wealth, theft deterrent or/and a spiritual guide which dates back to ostentatious displays of wealth using sequins in Ancient Egypt, India and Peru. With its roots in status and wealth, modern ... read more
