There is nothing more classic than owning timeless jewellery like vintage rings, rose gold mesh watches and pearls, all jewellery trends that have stood the test of time. From pearl earring studs to vintage art deco ring, inspired by the opulence and grandeur of the twenties flappers, it is evident that some jewellery trends have meant business and are clearly here to stay. While jewellery trends like ‘tassel earrings’ and chokers are often part of my ‘jewellery’ repertoire, these jewellery pieces are not ‘necessarily’ what I would call timeless jewellery as they are ‘trend orientated’ and thus ‘dip in and out of fashion’ without warning. In contrast metals like ‘rose gold’ and silver are usually always ‘on trend’ because they are associated with ‘formal and special occasions such as weddings, balls and dates, all events which demand a spectacularly constructed timeless jewellery design that can be worn equally to wow a first date as much as they can be worn with a glorious bridal gown. But while ‘timeless jewellery designs’ like teardrop earrings can often incur a hefty ‘price tag’ as I am about to showcase below there are plenty of vintage rings for sale, just as there is mid-level rose gold watches, for quality timepieces that are worth investing in but at the same time wont bankrupt your savings either.
Timeless Jewellery Trend Alert:Rose Gold Mesh Watches
With more and more consumers choosing cruelty free choices that do not need to use ‘animal skins for leather’, the rise of ‘mesh watches’ have increased sevenfold and it’s easy to see why. Ethical choices aside, a mesh watch is more likely to last longer than a ‘leather watch’ whose quality can erode over time, in part due to weather, age and general wear and tear, while it is also an elegant and refined timepiece than can dress up a ‘basic outfit’ or compliment a more grand look like a bridesmaid outfit as you can see below. With a range of rose gold mesh watches available it can be difficult to ascertain as to which ‘watch brand’ would be the greatest choice for timeless jewellery that will withstand the test of time. If you are looking for simple gold, rose gold and silver timepieces with colourful ‘clock faces’ then you should look no further than Adexe, an East London start up brand who describes themselves as being ‘non-conformist’ and prides itself as a master of the venerable art form, melding mechanical precision with luxury and aesthetic finesse.
While Adexe does sell ‘leather watches’, for those who do not wear animal materials like myself, or are looking to ‘try something new’ their rose gold mesh watches are classy, colour neutral (so that they can be paired with any outfit whether it be dressy and casual) and come in a range of sizes (petite and grande ) and styles to suit any individuals taste. What’s more watches currently range from £69 to £129, which for an upmarket watch brand is a lot cheaper than its competitors like Fossil and Daniel Wellington.
Timeless Trend Alert:Vintage Rings
We all know that ‘vintage’ is often timeless because of how ‘pricey’ their products can be, ranging from clothing, accessories like rings and of course bags, which come from historical eras like the 20’s, 30’s, 50’s and 70’s all time periods which are considered by period critics to be era’s of ‘vintage influence’ in the modern era. But when you are purchasing vintage goods, it can often be difficult to ascertain as to whether their ‘pieces’ are worth the price they are selling the products for as well as making sure that the goods are actually ‘vintage’ and not just ‘knock off pieces’ so it is always important to check beforehand. Which is why when it comes to timeless jewellery like vintage rings, it can often be more realistic to ‘shop online’ with trusted and reputed retailers like Susannah Lovis, whose range of vintage rings are currently on sale, ranging from diamond wedding rings, platinum eternity rings and more ‘historical styles’ like an ‘Old European’ diamond stone ring.
Undoubtedly these rings are not made for ‘casual daily use’ and should be treated with the upmost care and regard, which speaks for why vintage rings are examples of such timeless jewellery classics. That being said, when purchasing vintage rings you are ultimately making an investment, so whether you are proposing to your partner or want to spoil a loved one, just make sure that it is all worth it.
Timeless Trend Alert:Teardrop Earrings
‘Top And Drop Earrings’ otherwise known as Teardrop Earrings are timeless jewellery pieces which originate from the 1800’s and remained the most popular earring style throughout the nineteenth century because ‘minimalism’ which we often associate with the nineties, was actually as prevalent in the eighteenth and nineteenth century as it was in the 1990’s. Worn with the newly fashionable high dress and blouse collar, the large pendant earrings of decades before were incompatible with with the elaborate “dog collar” necklaces worn for evening, which almost completely covered the neck. Which is why the ‘teardrop earring’ was so popular, because they were still statement in a minimalist sense, but would not distract from the grandeur of new fashions. Therefore we can deduce that teardrop earrings have stood the test of time even though centuries have passed because we will wear them for formal occasions to compliment or ‘looks’ without drawing attention away from the aesthetic. So thus a ‘teardrop earrings’ ability to still be going strong after a period of centuries is rooted in its ability to not detract from the grandeur of an outfit.
Retailers like Thomas Sabo’s own teardrop earrings as showcased above still demonstrate that minimalist aesthetic with a slight statement flair, shown through the diamond plating of the rose gold earrings which almost look like a ‘lotus symbol’ or infinity symbol, both ‘symbolic emblems of ‘timeless divinity’ which naturally fits into the theme of this post.
Timeless Trend Alert:Statement Necklace
Tracing back as far as Ancient Egypt, the ‘statement necklace’ has evolved from being associated with ‘Distinguished Princesses’ who wore statement collar necklaces to being worn by ‘fashion enthusiasts’ regardless of social standing, in modern day. But why is this? Well statement necklaces are still timeless examples of jewellery because as historian and author Mila Contini quite rightly put “many modern jewels are imitations of antique trinkets that belonged to distinguished princesses” in ancient and medieval eras, which naturally as fantasists we all would like to get a piece of the action from. While statement necklaces range from collars, chokers to 3D necklaces, statement necklace’s ability to survive centuries of trends that come and go is testament to its versatility as a timeless jewellery piece.
Out of all the timeless jewellery trends featured in this article, the ‘statement necklace’ is easily the cheapest with the ability to pick up stunning necklaces from £2 on Ebay, whereas retailers like Accessorize (see the necklace below) offer statement necklace with semi-precious stones ranging from £12-25, cheaper in comparison to rings which can easily fetch over 1,000 for one singular piece.
