She pressed herself against her window, watching the pigeons walk along the roof. A flash of muted gray, tinged with turquoise. Her tabby cat perched on her hind legs, batting at the birds. A sharp meow, a cat in a tantrum. Watching the birds evade her once more. The skies darkened into a stormy gray, spillingf rain, like tears unshared. The cloud’s secrets drenching the streets. The scent of damp, her nose wrinkling. She sighed, wondering if summer would ever come. Desperate snatches of rare sunny days, the world engulfed in honeyed hues. But alas, it was yet another rainy day. Collapsing into her flower-strewn Bed. The light dim, shadows creeping up the creamy walls. She would take advantage of days like this. A rare full-at-home day, brainstorming ideas. The cogs in her mind whirring, wondering where inspiration would hit. It was the loft bed that did it. Sat hunched over her old laptop, a notebook scattered to the side. Taking notes on her dream bedroom. What would it look like? What would it feel like? Even, what would it sound like? Would her dream bedroom use AI? It was all anyone was talking about. Hushed whispers, technology taking over. Where aesthetics, style, and space could be utilized with the click of a button.
She wanted a colourful bedroom where she could heal, laugh, and cry. Her thinking portal. Her best friend. Jumping on the bed, her arms stretched wide. Three pairs of feline eyes watching her every move. It wasn’t that her loft bedroom wasn’t already a dream. High and low ceilings, flooded with stars at night. The projector creating an illusion, bathed in the night sky. Hidden crevices with cats curled into a tight ball. A mantlepiece with crowns and tiaras. Overcrowded wardrobes, Princess dresses, and printed jeans. Pleated skirts, and gingham shorts. Here, she felt at home. Did it represent her though? Not quite. Missing the fully vibrant ball of energy that she was. Adrenaline coursing through her veins. Feeling alive, electric even. It was hard when you were renting a flat in London. The space becoming smaller and smaller. Turning into a hoarder. The walls closing in. She needed a refresh. But why AI? After all, admittedly A wasn’t always on board. Preferring to do things herself. Seeing AI as generic, robbing her of her creativity. But the truth was AI could be helpful. You could be creative, and use smart technology. If like A you did the job of 5 other people, would you turn down help? After all, she wasn’t an expert when it came to interior design. A traditionalist at heart. Finding designing her home overwhelming. And yet, as the rain danced on her window-pane, there was joy. Happiness at discovering how her dream bedroom should look, AI or not. It was time to wave goodbye to her stubborness, and try something new. She might just like it!
And so, she sat. Tongue sandwiched between crooked teeth thinking. Shredding old design magazines that she once coveted. Long-forgotten moodboards, and receipts from furniture stores. Sure, she was hesitant as to whether AI would capture the warmth and personality she wanted in her home. Would it understand the nuances of colour, light and comfort? But despite her reservations, she knew that AI could show her a new perspective. Curiosity got the better of her. Discovering how AI and her vision would collide. It wasn’t just algorithms and data. She would teach AI to learn from her. Guiding it, teaching it what she really loved. The feelings that she wanted her bedroom to evoke. The aesthetic style, and the smart touches. The colours, prints, the shapes and size. Could AI help her discover the balance that her bedroom so needed? A place not just for sleep. Calm, yet lively. Spacious, yet homely. Watching movies, on her partner’s stomach. A black cat curled into her back. Stars projected across the ceiling, like the night sky. From discovering AI design tools, to augumented reality, VR, and 3D models, she had so much fun. Helping her visualize the end result. A bedroom she could be proud of. Bold colours, patterns and textures. Less clutter, more open space.
Choose Your Dream Interior Design Aesthetic
Her dream bedroom needed no introduction. Bright baby pink, and sage green walls. A floral mural behind her bed’s headboard. A Matching chest of drawers, and wardrobes in the same complementary shade. A mantlepiece curated, with hats, crowns, necklaces, and headbands. Mirrored wardrobes, and fitted wardrobes. A pastel rainbow carpet, and a matching trio of cat beds. Framed art prints, and personal photos on shelves. Whimsical pillows, loud and proud. Natural light streaming through the windows. Something that felt tropical, yet eclectic too. A hodgepodge of aesthetics, but somehow curated. That summed up their personalities, a piece of their soul. But she didn’t know what she wanted, not exactly. How could she, when she didn’t know what her dream aesthetic would be. Sure, steampunk wasn’t her thing. Minimalism was a far cry from her eccentric nature. The aesthetic would be colourful, yes. But beyond the colours, what would it be? How could she find an interior design style that would suit her loft bedroom? In the end, she used AI to narrow it down to three designs. Asking ChatGPT, what room aesthetic matched her personality the best. Describing herself as fun-loving, quirky and colourful. Someone who loved being surrounded by nature, colour and animals. Who was inspired by the natural world, and its surroundings. Wanting a bedroom that felt more like herself. It told her that the following three styles matched her energy the most. Bohemian, tropical, and eclectic.
It was funny. The three she would have chosen would have been tropical, zen and jungle. Yet, Boho and eclectic did seem accurate. Boho with its bold, jewel tones. A contrast to its natural elements. The use of wood, rattan, and bamboo. Quirky decor, a mix of vintage and global-inspired accessories. Eclectic, where there were no rules. Mixing different time periods, styles and textures to create a unique and personalized space. Personal touches that could showcase her personality. From art-work to fashion, to souvenirs. Botanical prints, animal motifs and natural materials. Bringing travel to their home. But tropical? The one that defined her the most. Bright and airy, with a relaxed vibe. A colour palette inspired by the tropics, greens, blues and sunny yellows. Plants spiralling on a wall shelf. Ferns and cactuses. Small Bonsai trees, barely a sapling.
It made her rethink her dream bedroom. Realizing from one AI ChatGPT prompt, that she wanted something different. A bedroom that would cradle her in its arms, after a panic attack. A bed that would hug her, as the tears splashed onto pillows. Somewhere where she could meditate, and not feel overwhelmed. Where the walls didn’t close in on her, and threaten to swallow her whole. She could be happy here. Sometimes, she would imagine herself in Sleeping pods. In her own private bubble. Where she could have short naps, and feel productive when she woke up. Sure, they would be suited to offices. Teams disappearing into their private spaces. Alleviating work stress, with restorative breaks. But at home, they would be just as good. A controlled environment with better sleep hygeine for her mental health. But what did this have to do with a dream aesthetic? It would be functional, contributing to better mental wellbeing. A bed that would fit into any bedroom whether it was colourful, or minimalist. She smiled at the thought. Working tirelessly at her laptop, tip-tapping away. The fatigue settling in her bones. Yawning, as she clambered towards her imaginary sleeping pod. Sinking into its loving embrace. She wasn’t one for naps normally, and struggled with sleep at the best of times. And yet, it was well known that naps could enhance cognitive function, memory, and creativity, leading to improved problem-solving abilities and overall productivity. Who didn’t want a bed that boosted their physical and mental health?
Trial And Test Interior AI Design Apps Or Websites
Sure, she was used to doing everything herself. Someone who wore many hats. Writer, photographer, videographer. Networker, marketer, and event management. PR, and design. Was it any wonder that she was overwhelmed? Hours spent working for free, hoping that brands would notice her. That clients would come back to procure her services once more. Grasping at straws to make ends meet, with the costs of living. Her fractured bank account a testament to that. She realized that AI could help her. At least with her interior design. Batting away the overwhelm with an experienced hand. Saying goodbye to burn out, and hello to a new room. Even if she didn’t bring the interior design to life just yet, it would help knowing that her future was just around the corner. Now, she was in a bad financial position. The strain of renting in London, with three cats, mounting costs and bills eating away at her.
Having help wasn’t a bad thing. She just needed to get used to it. Scouring the web, to trial and test interior design apps, that used AI. RoomGPT, too generic. Havenly, promising at first. Taking a short quiz to discover her aesthetic, what would it say? Similar to ChatGPT, she was an ‘Artful Eclectic’. Described as a ‘one of a kind’ and her home too. Shelves filled with books and storied heirlooms. Artisanal decor, and hand-crafted furniture in layered colours. The latter wasn’t prevelent in her bedroom, but it should be. Her sub-styles though? Warm and transitional, traditional charm, and Midcentury Scandi. A bedroom that would feel cozy, where everyone would want to hang out. But it wouldn’t take away from the effort. Fresh cut flowers in bright textured vases. Colourful and pattern-happy, with a touch of whimsy. A contrast to Midcentury Scandi, with warm wooden tones and functionality. But beyond this? It was tailored to an American audience, unable to put in her post-code. A shame given she could set her budget, collaborate with a designer online or in person, and even design around furniture she owned and loved.
She adjusted her prompt, searching for UK AI tools to design her dream bedroom. It was then, that she hit the jackpot. Three simple apps. Not to start her bedroom from scratch. But to enhance what she already had. REImagine Home, an AI tool that encompassed virtual staging, redesigning furnished rooms, and landscaping. She uploaded a photo of her room. An early one, when it was barely furnished. To see what it came up with. Selecting the design theme as bohemian. The default colour combination coming up as an Olive Green Oasis with Coral Charm. The headboard more of a teal green with a matching monochromatic duvet. Coral and teal pillows, offset by a teal lamp. Falling in love with the rustic wooden cabinets next to her bed. However, there was something missing. She wanted more of a dramatic overhaul. She decided to imput an image of her ideal bedroom. A cobalt blue bedroom, in a close-up image. A rattan stool, with an intricate design. A small wooden coffee table with books, and a lamp. Reading shelves, and sprawling plants. But how would REImagine Home change it? A wooden oak bed, with a patchwork quilt. Teal, olive green and fuschia pink. Wooden floors and a vintage clock. Perhaps the most exciting AI tool was Planner5D, with everything from a Smart Wizard, to uploading a plan, starting from scratch or even hiring a designer. Though there were paid plans, she used tools that were free. The Smart Wizard was fun. She chose the shape of her room, an L shape. Adding in the room dimensions, choosing the ‘Bright Boho’ aesthetic. Voila, a bright and airy room. A green accent plant print wall. A retro 70’s carpet, and shelves lined with books. A green and white bed, with a rustic chandeleir. The only downside? That the 3D renderings weren’t realistic enough on the ‘free plan’.
There was one more tool on the list. A mobile app, with a familiar household name. Ikea Kreativ, to create an immersive experience that would bring her vision to life. She scanned her bedroom. Starting with a landscape picture. The next step, to align the right, and the left side, before scanning in a figure 8. Repeating the steps one more time, while she waited for the scan to upload. It estimated that it would take 8 minutes to upload, analyze and prepare the room. What would it do? She would design the dream bedroom using AI in the app. A large rainbow criss-cross rug, opposite the mirrored wardrobe. A geometric small rug by the large double bed. An olive green bedside cabinet with a yellow oval lamp. But the best part? A bed with a blue headboard, with rich cotton sheets. Accentuated with small and medium sized potted plants, for a touch of greenery. Though the AI tools she used didn’t match exactly what she was looking for, she knew it would improve with time. But what she did get out of it? Improved design skills, confidence to make her own choices, and an understanding of machine learning.
Use A Photo To Generate Similar Ideas
Just like a moodboard, she could use photos to redesign her bedroom. The only twist? Using AI, whether it was through stock image websites, a google search, or an AI image generator. For stock image websites, she loved Adobe Stock. Though she paid for this service, she found it helpful for blog posts, inspiration, and planning. From photoshoots, to interior design and fashion, it was a world of possibilities. She would search for a ‘colourful bedroom’, selecting ‘generative AI’ only. It was something she usually excluded, but was willing to see what she would find. One final step? Scrolling the vivid slider to high. It was wild and eclectic. A colourful modern bedroom, with a large street-art esque mural. A duck and abstract figures. Doodles on the floor and bed. A bedroom with circus colours, red, yellows and blues. A colour theory wall planted on the wall. Plush rainbow rug underneath a red velvet bed. She switched her search, looking for the best jungle bedrooms to match her personality. A gasp leaving her lips at the sight. A bedroom inspired by nature and travel. A green map trailing up the wall like leaves. A large mirror over a wooden bed. Large potted plants climbing sky-high. A vintage burnished mirror and toppling books. The other, a stylish urban bedroom. Emerald green and white decor. Soft lighting and a mass of plants threatening to take over. Wasn’t it crazy how one AI photo could give so much inspiration?
Something she was new to was an AI photo generator. She would use tools like RoomAI, to discover themes and how it would change their bedroom. A psychedellic room, with rainbow rave rugs unexpected. A retro room with a swirling pink, purple and orange ceiling, complete with vintage quilt. The ability to start a free trial to discover how themes would change their room. Tropical or surrealist. Hollywood Regency and French Chic. The ability to download the images after, saving them as reference. FYI, an alternative to RoomGPT, generating AI images that would suit her bedroom layout. Coastal, a prominient theme. Barbiecore and an Urban Jungle. But her favourite? The William Morris, something different. Iconic wall prints, and vintage paintings. A 50’s style wooden poster bed and a rustic fireplace. She shook herself into the present. Feeling more confident about using AI to design her dream bedroom. Sure, it had its ups and downs. But the ups were what she chose to focus on. Knowing that it would only get better over the years. Evolving beyond its current form, into something special.
Utilize Augumented Reality To Design Your Bedroom.
She remembered her cousin, coming over to their flat one day. An Occulus in one hand, a bottle of wine in another. Putting on the headset, immersed in the world of virtual reality. Fighting zombies, as though they were in her living room. It got her thinking, couldn’t she apply the same theory to designing her bedroom? Turns out AR and VR, were a huge part of future interior design. AR applications allowing her to superimpose virtual furniture and decor into her real world space. Helping her to see how different elements would look in her space without having to physically move anything. Interactive placement, where she could adjust virtual furniture and decor in real-time. VR walkthroughs with immersive 3D tours of her designed bedroom, allowing her to experience the space before making the final decisions. Just like she liked house viewings that had ‘virtual tours’, the same could be said for designing rooms. It would enable her to walk through her designed bedroom, and view it from every angle. Understanding its scale, proportion and spatial relationships. Detailed renderings where she could preview materials, textures, lighting and colours.
Her favourite part of AR and VR? Scenario testing, where she could create multiple design scenarios, and experience each one virtually. Testing different layouts, furniture sizes, and decor styles to see which one would work the best. Providing immediate visual feedback on design changes, would allow her to see the impact of her choices right away. Increasing her confidence, as she examined detailed previews. Reducing uncertaintity, with greater satisfaction in the end result. Above all, AI would make the design process more engaging and exciting. Drawing up her own 2D and 3D plans. Where would her bed go? What would she add? What design style was she after? Spacious or homely? She was fully immersed in the creation of her dream bedroom, relishing the endless posibilities that she curated. And so, her AI dream bedroom journey had come to an end. Her fingers cramping, her muscles seizing. Bags under her eyes, another late night. And yet, she felt good. Designing a bedroom she could be proud of. Warm, comforting, art-inspired, surrounded by nature. Three cats and a boyfriend. Day plunged into inky night. At last, she was done.
