Once upon a time there lived a lonely pair of sunglasses, huddled on the corner of civilization in wait for a new life, where money was no object and it could live the rest of its days in peace. But alas no brand came to its rescue and in a land where designer sunglasses ruled the roost, the lonely pair of sunglasses thought its life was over. That is until now; meet the eyewear brand taking social media by storm – Cheapass Sunglasses- whose mission is to inject fun, budget friendly sunglasses into beachgoers lives and prove that ‘budget’ does not mean ‘poor quality’. No matter your budget the sun loving Cheapass Sunglasses will find a pair or four to suit you. Cheap as ‘chips’ the brand spends its days lounging by pools and drinking in the sweet scent of success, as the sun dips enticingly in and out of the pool of sunglasses. Be bold and choose a flamboyant pair of orange vintage cat eye sunglasses or go sporty with tinted aviator specs, as no matter the preference there is over 150 sunglasses to choose from. As the sun drenched skies close to a halt the sunglasses party after dark, most commonly found in Ibiza beside the resident DJ’s making their way downtown. The sunglasses may sleep all day and party all night but like Wiz Khalifa, there is time to chill and mellow out by painting the houses ‘black and yellow’. Which is why the cool vibin ‘Wiz Khalifa’ sunnies are the perfect remedy to sleepless nights and can help you detoxify your surroundings to relax again.
Featuring multi-coloured lens that alternate between violet, red and green, the Wiz Khalifa’s are part of a grand legacy reaching as far back as 1936 when Edwin H Land used a patented Polaroid filter to create polarized sunglasses. Since 1936 polarized sunglasses have become cultural phenomenon’s in themselves, whose dual ability to protect stars from the glare of paparazzi lens and look effortlessly cool allowed fans to imitate their ‘celebrity heroes’ by wearing sunglasses too. Today the sunglasses industry generates a sales revenue profit of $3,596,000,000 worldwide and is responsible for helping to protect sun-lover’s eyes from harming UV rays. To be part of such a rich legacy is an honour for Cheapass Sunglasses and their fun, kitsch approach to curating eyewear has already made it a success in the making. Wiz Khalifa’s are a formidable ball of energy, whose chaotic yet calming energy is synonymous with the rappers chilled yet self-motivated attitude towards life and this is an ethos that Cheapass Sunglasses has emulated to perfection. But there is more to the Wiz Khalifa’s than imitating their namesakes traits and qualities, the Wiz Khalifa’s radiate ‘positivity’ and align with the yogic principles-insert evidence- to make your life 100% better. So no matter how hard your day has been the Wiz Khalifa’s might not solve or reduce your worries but it will allow you to angst in peace.
What’s more at the ‘cheap as chips’ price of £7.99 the aptly named Wiz Khalifa’s are budget superstars in the making and are guaranteed to make any ( yes any) outfit cool again. Despite its ‘superstar price’ it comes without saying that the frames are made from ‘cheap’ plastic materials and at first touch it can be quite off-putting. I admit that my first initial response was to be ‘weirded out’ by the plastic frames but once I put the ‘Wiz Khalifa’s’ on my fears melted away. The polarized lens were incredibly reflective and captured multi-dimensional vision well, turning to a satisfying shade of ‘teal’ green. Green has always been associated with the image of tranquility, peace and reflection and ties into the aforementioned earlier theme of yogic principles, proving that sunglasses can be spiritual too. When I wear sunglasses I forget about my flaws; my small hooded eyes, wonky nose, crooked teeth and frizzy hair; instead I focus on how positive the sunglasses make me feel and that is all that matters.
I believe that the perfect pair of sunglasses connect with us in a way that can only be described as kinetic energy or a balanced chemical reaction because it can make you feel ‘something special’ and Wiz Khalifa’s make me feel good about myself. Despite my initial misgivings concerning the plastic frames the concentrated polarization of the lens beared similarity to Ray Ban’s Wayfarer’s who I recently found out use plastic frames to, because it is easier to mass produce than a sturdier frame. Which makes complete sense and considering how much income the sunglasses industry churns out each year it should come as no surprise. Because the Wiz Khalifa’s use plastic frames it can be quite creaky to put on and almost papery to the touch which might be a little bit of a turn off despite its highly concentrated lens. That being said, being on a budget does not always leave much room for luxuries which is why Cheapass Sunglasses creates stack discounts on top of each sunglasses heavily reduced price to ensure that the customer can buy multiple pairs to suit different outfits. What’s more the mellow Wiz Khalifa’s are constructed in a similar vein to designer Wayfarers with a slightly arched bridge and a medium sized frame that sit comfortably on the bridge of the nose, Wayfarer’s suit most face types. From aviators to wayfarers Cheapass Sunglasses has created an effortless merger between contemporary, futuristic and vintage sunglasses to appeal to all target audiences.

Oh my gosh, this is me all the way! I swear I can’t keep a pair of sunglasses more than a few months. Either I lose them or the dog chews them, or I swear they walk off all by themselves. It’s an ongoing internal debate .. if I bought a pair of more expensive sunglasses, would I be more mindful of them? Or should I keep buying cheap ones. Alas ..
