It is almost hard to believe that it is 26 degrees today, with the shocking weather we had last week that gave us such delights like the ‘wind monster’ who thinks it is hilarious to mess up our hair, the biting cold sent by our enemy the snow queen and of course the rain who thinks it is even more hilarious to have it sunny one day and the next pouring down with rain. Unfortunately for this weather trio, the cold makes me grumpy so imagine my delight when I was told that the ‘Bank Holiday weekend’ was forecasted to be warm and blessed by our beloved sunshine AKA the sun goddess herself, who thinks that it is equally funny to have me working inside while the whole world is outside turning a glorious shade of ‘prawn red’ . And let me tell you something, I still have tan lines from the last time the sun decided to make an appearance and trust me, tan lines from ‘knee high’ gladiator sandals is most definitely not a good look. Now I look like I have been attacked by a barbed wire fence or even more hilariously might have decided to poke my leg through the fence so that I could ‘try the fences version of a tan’. Needless to say its not a good look, but enough about the sunshine and the weird and wonderful ways that Brits like to get tanned. It seems like just yesterday that it was Spring but now that summer is finally on the horizon, it’s time to get naked and throw a pool party!
When its 26 degrees outside, there is nothing you would like more than to get totally nude and scare all the neighbors away who always like to be peeping toms – serves them right for being nosy parkers- and bonus points if you don a ‘mankini’ or go for a cheeky vajuzzle too. But for those of us who would actually like to socialize with other human beings, I don’t think everyone would appreciate your nudity quite so much, which is why a trend report of what you should be wearing this summer, is the guide you need to look hot to trot. From ‘customized garments’ like personalized tops and swimsuits to show off your zany personality, to floral kimonos that are perfect for pretending to fly on the beach, here are some summer trends that will make you actually want to put clothes on for once. And if you really have to go naked, don’t worry I am sure that Google will give you plenty of recommendations for nudist beaches in an area near you.
1.Halterneck One Piece Swimsuits
Now for those of us who aren’t the most comfortable in a ‘bikini’ (although this is something I am working on) a halterneck swimsuit not only gives the illusion of a fuller bust (oh look I actually have boobs for once) but is also extremely flattering, comfortable and undeniably summer ready. After all imagine how extra you will look dragging a full size inflatable swan to the middle of Shoreditch in your swimsuit and pretending that you are ‘swimming in the sea’… oh wait. Yes you guessed it, I quite literally got a giant inflatable and took great joy in all the random people who thought it would be hilarious to jump in my special swan with me, I was not amused I am telling you that. But enough about inflatables, if you are actually normal unlike me, then chances are you aren’t going to be wearing your one piece swimsuit in the middle of winter, nor will you be dragging said inflatables across Shoreditch High Street, before bumping into an old class mate- you know the kind of person who you thought was your friend but actually realized never liked you in the first place-? Yeah that kinda gal, and needless to say she was tittering like a silly school girl, because she couldn’t handle how awesome my swan was haha.
So you have made plans to go the beach and you’re feeling hella fine, after all you didn’t spend the whole build up to summer stuffing your face with cake and ignoring the gym (obviously this is me, you know I like to eat) for nothing you know. So imagine your pride and delight where you are watching people around you eat a healthy ass salad, and you are taking great joy in licking the sea salt off your fingers, as you munch your way through a very unhealthy but wickedly delicious portion of chippies on Brighton Pier. YAAS QUEEN.

2. Nauticial Striped Off The Shoulder Cotton And Linen Dresses
So you finally made it abroad and decided to venture further afield than Bognor Regis ( I actually love Bognor so no trolling people please), settling into a long week of sun, sea, sand and fabulous outfits to turn your summer into one to remember. But in countries that are ‘consistently warmer’ than the UK (read everywhere but the UK), knowing what to wear that isn’t going to have you jumping into the pool every five seconds, can be a tricky feat to manage. Enter the humble ‘striped off the shoulder’ cotton and linen dress, a breathable dress that will not only keep your food baby a secret but will also ensure that you won’t turn into a sizzling prawn under the warm summer heat. And even if you go on holiday like me and it ends up raining the whole time, that’s ok too, because it’s fun to pretend it is warm abroad, even when it isn’t. In fact for those of you who follow me on Instagram, you will know that I am always inappropriately dressed for the weather 99.9% of time and have clearly never mastered the art of ‘casual wear’ but that is just me.
So sizzling vegetarian prawns aside, a key component of this nauticial trend is the ‘off the shoulder’ detailing, which not only adds interest to the cotton dress but also helps add structure to the construction of the look, so if you are petite like me, you won’t look like you have been swallowed by the Stripey Dipey Monster… Yeah I have no idea who that is either. And paired with a floppy straw hat and heeled sandals, will make you either look like you are going to the beach or you are just ‘super EXTRA’ like me at any given time.

4. Statement Jewellery Like Earrings And Necklaces
While the whole world might be gravitating towards the 90’s minimalist jewellery movement, in my mind summer trends are about having fun and wearing bold statement pieces that can help elevate your look to the next level. Which is where statement jewellery like tassel earrings and art deco inspired statement necklaces come into place; why settle for baby studs when you can have ‘mini fans’ on your ears, with earrings that cool you down every time that you move. And if you think that is not good enough, go one level up with art deco inspired statement necklaces, that might feel like you have the weight of a baby elephant on your chest but will still make you look super fresh, and we all want that, don’t we? After all its like the famous mantra goes, no pain, no gain. While tassel earrings and art deco necklaces are great statement jewellery pieces to invest in, other key summer trends in the jewellery world include the ‘Raffia Statement trend’ which essentially looks like mini fans making out with each other, beaded jewellery and teardrop designs, all in fun and wonderful rainbow bright colours.
So whether you want to look like you have dropped a tonne of acid in bright yellow beaded earrings or want a classier but nevertheless statement affair with a teardrop collar, find out below which statement jewellery pieces have made Mama Jasmine’s summer trends countdown.

5. Cold Shoulder Playsuits
Put your hands up if you want to wear something that has no sleeves, but actually does have sleeves, want something off the shoulder, but on the shoulder too? Confused, well welcome to the humble cold shoulder trend, taking the world by storm since 2015 and it’s only getting hotter as the summer progresses. With risque peekaboo detail that is classy yet sensual, show the beach goers what they are missing by flashing your… arms (get your mind out of the gutter you cheeky thing) with lettuce hem capped sleeves and lettuce edged loose ‘playsuit bottoms’ for a relaxed beach silhouette that is less likely to show your butt to the world than a ridicolously small pair of micro hot pants that only Barbie could wear and pull off. I mean I tried micro shorts before and I felt like I had a very visible camel toe the entire time, so trust me, it’s not a look that I would like to repeat again anytime soon.
But back to cold shoulder playsuits, even when you have made the trip to the beach and as usual the weather has decided to be an arsehole, that’s ok too. Simply pack a light satin blouse or bodysuit and layer underneath the playsuit to give you extra warmth. Because we all know how the saying goes in England: rain rain go away, come back another da- tomorrow. Yep because British weather likes to pretend that it is going to bless us with sunshine and then have us wake up the next morning with snow outside our window!

Oh my gosh, you and me both with dorky looking tan lines! It was in the 80s here this weekend and with all of my walking outside I noticed in the shower I have a stripe on my leg between where my yoga pants left off and my sock started. I told my husband it’s the latest in sexy looks. Anyway, I love the idea of customizing your own tee and especially that you chose street art (of course). I think on mine I’d have a cute picture of a pug. I saw one this afternoon and just had to walk over and give him an ear scratch! xx

Stripes are totally on trend. I love them. You look so [retty in that striped dress. Loving all the accessories you put together. The headband you wore with the playsuit is damn cute.

I’ve never been a fan of the cold shoulder look, yet I love how well done it is in that jumpsuit. It’s so cute with the ruffles! And I have 2 halter one pieces, so yay for being on trend at least for that. Ha! 🙂
