Unwritten Lovers
‘Helpless love nestled in soft luxury, as lovers sit side by side,Powerless couples caught in a sticky web of allure and promise, Soft romance buried under contempt, knife sharp words, Haunted sunrises pregnant with unwritten potential,Silky silences lead into darkness, poisoned by human emotion, Bitter smiles are hard to keep up, the devil whispers in one ear,Acidic light pouring over unbelievers, awake at last, Negativity roasts on the fire of life, eternal damnation indeed’
Inspired by the quintessential Englishwoman Elie Beaumont has curated a watch collection that is timeless, elegant and multi-faceted. Drawing on elements of signature British style and fusing it with an appreciation of modern youth culture, Elie’s watches have the ability to transcend eras and its wearability is one of its unique selling points. With a background in fashion design, Elie researches and evaluates current trends before creating the ‘perfect watch’, influenced by her love of vintage and haute couture collections. With its classic thin design Elie’s watches are simple but reflective of ‘consumers’ interests who have moved beyond the neon, statement watches that yo-yo in and out of fashion and instead focuses on a design that appeals to all target markets.
Since the 15th century watches have become a unisex staple for both practical and aesthetic purposes. Elie draws upon the medieval ethos by incooperating the practicality of a streamlined watch with the aesthetic of traditional luxury so often associated with British accessories. The luxurious aesthetic is reminiscient of innovative and renowned watch brand Daniel Wellington who cultivates a ‘wearable’ watch with the appearence of being more infinitely expensive than it actually is. Elie’s could be designer range is what attracted me to the collection and I chose the Oxford Ladies Rose Gold Watch to feed into the Pantone colour of the year ‘Rose Quartz’.
Inspired by the persuasive yet gentle tone of ‘Rose Quartz’ Elie’s rose gold watch is delicately composed with the intention of cloaking its wearer with both ‘comfort’ and ‘fierce loyalty’. The comforting ethos behind the rose gold watch draws you into a world where serenity and leadership co-exist in peaceful partnership, bringing a new meaning to luxury. The traditional image of luxury wear was often delegated by the hierarchial stratification of society creating a stratified social class system whereby the rich owned all means of production. As capitalism fell out of favour luxury-style accessories and products became easier to access by all social classes and that is an attribute that Elie so cleverly monetizes in her own watch collection.
To compliment the luxurious rose-gold clock face Elie has attatched a premium Indigo leather strap with textured faux-snakeskin detail to add a youthful yet inconcogrously timeless vibe. Named after the elite capital ‘Oxford’ the unique combination of modern and traditional watch elements feeds into the cosmopolitan atmosphere that Oxford offers, while inexplicably remaining true to its traditional ‘old school roots’. But unlike its namesake Elie Beaumont is inexpensive with all watches priced at £49 in comparison to luxury brand Daniel Wellington’s average pricing at £219. The inexpensive watches are aimed at an audience that craves luxury at high street prices but still using premium, high quality materials.
With the popularity of rose gold last year Elie’s watches are selling out fast and it is easy to see why. With its roots in 19th century Russian culture, rose gold symbolized ‘eternal love’ a sentiment which is etched throughout the entireity of Beaumont’s collection. There is tender love ingrained in the small circular clock face, passionate yet serene love in the sentiment of rose gold and wickedly delicious love in the moody Victoriana aspect of the indigo watch strap.
